Fingerprint Authentication
WorkstationFingerprint authentication lets staff sign in to ZynoWorkstation by touching a supported fingerprint reader. It is useful for shared registers, front desks, and other workstations where staff need to switch users quickly.
This feature is available only in ZynoWorkstation. Browser-based ZynoSuite does not use attached fingerprint readers.
Requirements
Before using fingerprint authentication, confirm:
- ZynoWorkstation is installed and registered.
- A supported fingerprint reader is connected to the workstation.
- ZynoWorkstation detects the reader.
- The user has an enrolled fingerprint.
- The user or an administrator has permission to manage fingerprints.
If a reader is connected while ZynoWorkstation is already open, restart Workstation so the device can be detected.
How It Appears at Sign-In
When ZynoWorkstation detects a fingerprint reader, the workstation sign-in screen shows Sign in with fingerprint above the username and PIN/password form.
Touch an enrolled finger to the reader. If ZynoSuite recognizes the fingerprint, it signs in the matching user.
If no reader is detected, staff can still sign in with username and PIN/password when those credentials are configured.
Enroll Fingerprints
- Sign in to ZynoWorkstation.
- Open the user menu from the sidebar or Quick Access Bar.
- Select Manage Fingerprints.
- Select a gray fingerprint slot.
- Press the requested finger on the reader for 1 second, then release.
- Repeat until 5 samples are collected.
- Select Done.
Blue fingerprint slots are already enrolled. Select a blue slot to remove that fingerprint.
Administrators can also manage fingerprints for another user from Admin > Identity & Access > Users by selecting the number in that user's fingerprint column.
Good Enrollment Practices
- Enroll more than one finger for staff who rely on fingerprint sign-in.
- Keep the reader surface clean.
- Have the user press and release naturally during each sample.
- Re-enroll a finger if recognition becomes unreliable.
- Remove old fingerprints when a user should no longer use a shared workstation.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What To Check |
|---|---|
| Sign in with fingerprint does not appear | Confirm this is ZynoWorkstation, the reader is connected, and the app was restarted after connecting it |
| Reader is connected but not detected | Check the USB connection, reader power, driver installation, and whether another app is using the reader |
| Fingerprint is not recognized | Use username and PIN/password, then re-enroll the finger after signing in |
| User cannot open Manage Fingerprints | Confirm the user has permission to manage fingerprints |
| Admin cannot enroll for another user | Confirm the admin can access Admin > Identity & Access > Users |
