Barcode Readers
WorkstationBarcode readers help staff scan products into Salespoint, search inventory, and fill item barcode fields without typing long UPC values.
ZynoWorkstation can detect and assign barcode reader hardware for a registered workstation. Web browsers can also work with simple keyboard-style scanners in some screens, but Workstation is the preferred option for fixed registers and counters.
Admin Setup Required
You need access to Admin > General > Workstations to assign a barcode reader to a workstation.
Before You Begin
- Install and register ZynoWorkstation.
- Connect the barcode reader to the computer.
- Install any driver or configuration utility required by the scanner manufacturer.
- Confirm the scanner is configured to send the barcode value as keyboard input.
Most barcode readers are configured by scanning setup barcodes from the reader's manual. A common setup is to send the barcode value followed by Enter.
Check Detection
- Open Admin > General > Workstations.
- Select the workstation.
- Open the hardware tab.
- Look for the scanner in the device list.
The scanner can appear as Barcode Scanner. Some USB scanners may be detected as a generic USB device but still be available for the Barcode Scanner preference.
If the scanner is not listed, unplug and reconnect it, confirm it is powered, then close and reopen Workstation.
Assign The Scanner
- Open Admin > General > Workstations.
- Select the workstation row.
- On the preferences tab, find Barcode Scanner.
- Choose the scanner from the list.
- Select Save.
Device options are based on hardware detected at the workstation's location. If more than one scanner is available, choose the one physically attached to the station staff will use.
Use A Barcode Reader
Barcode scanning is available in supported workflows:

| ZynoInventory | Searches the inventory list by UPC, SKU, or item details. |
| ZynoInventory item editor | Fills the UPC field when editing a standalone inventory item. |
| Fulfillment workflows | Can be used where a scan prompt is shown, such as pickup or package scanning. |
If a scan prompt says Waiting for scan..., scan the barcode and wait for the workflow to continue.
Common Issues
| Problem | What To Check |
|---|---|
| Scan does nothing | Confirm the scanner is connected, powered, and assigned under Barcode Scanner for the workstation. |
| Scan types into the wrong field | Click out of text inputs before scanning, or use the workflow's scan prompt when available. |
| Scanner adds extra characters | Reconfigure the scanner so it sends only the barcode value and, if needed, Enter. |
| Product is not found | Confirm the product or inventory item has the scanned UPC or SKU saved. |
| Scanner is missing from preferences | Check the hardware tab first. If the device is not detected, reconnect it and restart Workstation. |
